How to set up two-factor authentication in Hostinger Webmail

Secure your Hostinger Webmail account by enabling two-factor authentication with an authenticator app.

Updated 3 weeks ago

Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your Webmail account. In addition to your password, you will enter a time-sensitive code generated by an authenticator application. This ensures that even if someone learns your password, they cannot access your email account without your authorization device.

Before you start

  • Ensure you have a smartphone or a computer ready to install an authenticator application.
  • Download a Time-based One-Time Password (TOTP) application.
  • Recommended options include:
    • Google Authenticator (iOS, Android)
    • Microsoft Authenticator (iOS, Android)
    • Apple Passwords (iOS, macOS)
    • Authy (iOS, Android, Desktop)

Step 1 – Enable 2FA in Webmail

  • Log in to Hostinger Webmail.
  • Click on All Settings ⚙️ in the top-right corner.
  • Select the Account section.
  • Locate the Two-factor authentication option and select Add 2FA.
  • Open your chosen authenticator application on your device, choose the option to add an account, and scan the QR code displayed on the screen.
  • Enter the 6-digit confirmation code generated by your app into Webmail to complete the setup.

NOTES

  • Always save the provided backup codes in a secure location, such as a password manager.
  • These backup codes are required to access your account if you lose your authenticator device.

Step 2 – Disable 2FA (Optional)

If you need to turn off two-factor authentication at any point, follow these steps while you still have access to your account:

  • Log in to Hostinger Webmail.
  • Navigate to All Settings ❯ Account.
  • Select Disable 2FA and confirm the choice.

Troubleshooting: Lost authenticator access

If you cannot log in to Webmail because you lost your authenticator device or backup codes, you must reset the 2FA settings through hPanel.

If you are the account owner or administrator

  • Log in to hPanel.
  • Navigate to the Emails section and locate the affected mailbox.
  • Click the three-dots menu (:) next to the mailbox
  • Select the option to Disable 2FA
  • Log back in to Webmail normally and configure 2FA again.

Note: The Disable 2FA option is currently displayed for all mailboxes in hPanel, regardless of whether 2FA is actually enabled on that mailbox.

If you do not have hPanel access

  • Contact your email administrator or account owner and request that they disable 2FA for your mailbox using the hPanel steps listed above.
