How to host an external domain at Hostinger

Connect domains registered with other providers to Hostinger

Updated 2 days ago

You can use Hostinger services with any domain you own, even if it was registered with another provider. By connecting an external domain to your Hostinger hosting plan, you can manage your website and services through hPanel while choosing whether to keep your domain registration elsewhere or move it to Hostinger for easier management.

Option 1 – Point the domain to Hostinger

Change the nameservers at your current provider to point to Hostinger. This allows you to manage your DNS records in hPanel while keeping domain renewals and contact details at your current registrar.

  1. Log in to your hPanel and locate your custom Hostinger nameservers.
  2. Go to your domain registrar’s management panel.
  3. Replace the existing records with Hostinger nameservers.
  4. Wait up to 24 hours for propagation to complete.
  5. Once propagated, you can manage your domain’s DNS on hPanel.

If your domain registrar does not support changing nameservers, you can still point the domain to Hostinger using DNS records:

  • Use an A record for custom PHP/HTML websites and standard hosting plans.
  • Use a CNAME record for Hostinger Website Builder and Hostinger Horizons websites.
Note: A records are not supported for Hostinger Website Builder. Pointing a Website Builder domain via A record will prevent the site from loading correctly.

Option 2 – Transfer the domain to Hostinger

With this method, you move the domain registration to Hostinger to manage all your services in one place.

Refer to this detailed guide: How to transfer a domain to Hostinger.

NOTE

  • If a specific TLD is not available for transfer, you can still use it by pointing the domain to Hostinger nameservers.

How to add an external domain

To start using your external domain with your hosting plan, follow these steps:

  • For custom PHP/HTML websites including WordPress and Node.js: Add the website to your hosting plan.
  • For Hostinger Website Builder and Hostinger Horizons: Connect the website by replacing the temporary domain with your custom domain.
  • Enter your domain name and follow the on-screen instructions.

Exceptions

Some country-code top-level domains (ccTLDs) cannot be connected or parked at Hostinger because they belong to countries subject to international sanctions. To comply with applicable laws and the Hostinger Terms of Service, the following extensions are not supported:

  • .cu (Cuba).
  • .ir (Iran).
  • .kp (North Korea).
  • .ru (Russia).
  • .by (Belarus).
  • .ve (Venezuela).

After connecting and pointing your external domain to Hostinger, you are now ready to start growing  your online presence.
